The Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre – otherwise known as the Barton Street Jail – is the site of Hamilton’s latest COVID-19 outbreak.
The outbreak was officially declared by Hamilton public health on February 15th as seven total cases of COVID-19 were found in two prison inmates and five staff members.

Further cases discovered within Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre will be reported through the city’s website and list of outbreaks.
It becomes one of 18 active outbreaks in the city, which collectively represent a sizeable portion of Hamilton’s current number of 330 known active COVID-19 cases.
Among the outbreaks are numerous retirement and long-term care homes including Macassa Lodge, which has the largest number of confirmed cases at 59 with 11 deaths so far.
Some workplaces are also listed, including Domino’s Pizza at 1171 Upper James and Canada Bread at 745 Nebo Road.
