Canadian Tire announced last week that they will be closing all National Sports retail locations including the location on Upper Wentworth in Hamilton.
The closure would help reduce overlap in sporting goods retail after an internal evaluation, according to parent company Canadian Tire Ltd.

Closing all 18 Canadian stores came off the back of the company reporting its fourth-quarter profit and revenue.
“This has been a difficult decision, particularly due to its impact on people,” the company’s chief financial officer Gregory Craig told investors on a conference call last week.
“We’re making every effort to place affected employees within our family of companies.”
The company has multiple brands under their belt including Canadian Tire, Mark’s, SportChek, Atmosphere, Sports Experts, and Pro Hockey Life.
National Sports opened in 1968 to start selling sportswear, shoes, and gear as National Sports Gym Clothing Ltd.
It is expected that stores will close between now and the end of June 2021.
