Hamilton confirms largest one-day increase of COVID-19 cases

On Tuesday, Hamilton public health confirmed the city’s largest number of daily COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic more than a year ago.

162 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were confirmed on Tuesday, March 30th alone, topping the city’s previous record of 161 new daily cases back on December 17th.

This one-day uptick comes with three new deaths, and brings the city’s total number of known active COVID-19 cases to 913, and the overall total since the start of the pandemic to 12,730 confirmed cases.

Hamilton is currently experiencing 41 active outbreaks of COVID-19 in spots including businesses, hospital units, retirement residences, and schools.

The largest of those current outbreaks is the one at the Salvation Army Shelter on York Boulevard, which was declared February 10th and has seen 63 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date.

As of Monday, Hamilton was moved back into the grey ‘lockdown’ zone of the province’s COVID-19 reopening framework.
