Hamilton’s first large-scale COVID-19 vaccine clinic opens today

Signalling a solid move forward in the city’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout, Hamilton’s first large-scale vaccine clinic officially opens its doors for operation today.

The clinic has opened at FirstOntario Centre (formerly Copps Coliseum) while the stadium’s usual lineup of concerts and Hamilton Bulldogs games is on pause, and has the ability to administer as many as 3,000 shots per day to eligible Hamilton residents when at full capacity.

Vaccines at FirstOntario Centre, like elsewhere in the city, will be available exclusively via appointment only, with no walk-in vaccinations available. When at its fullest capacity, the clinic will feature 100 staff and 28 total vaccination stations, as well as a waiting area for recovery post-vaccine.

The list of eligible Hamiltonians is growing, too, but is still limited to specific priority groups.

As of now, Hamilton residents ages 75 and up, high priority healthcare workers, residents and staff in long-term care and retirement homes, residents and workers in the city’s shelter system, all Indigenous adults, and locals requiring chronic home care are eligible to get their shot.

In the coming weeks and months, that eligibility will continue opening up to greater numbers of Hamilton’s population.

The large-scale COVID-19 vaccine clinic at FirstOntario Centre will operate 7 days a week from 9 am to 1:30 pm as well as 3:30 to 8 pm daily. Free parking will be available if locals park in the York Boulevard Parkade and bring their ticket to the clinic for validation.
