Supercrawl to receive funding from the federal government

The creators of Hamilton’s premiere music and arts festival, Supercrawl, will receive $206,679 in federal funding to help the company advance the Bridgeworks Community Space project.

Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament for Hamilton-West-Ancaster-Dundas Filomena Tassi and Member of Parliament for Hamilton East-Stoney Creek Bob Bratina made the announcement this week on behalf of the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Steven Guilbeault.

“During this difficult year for our cultural institutions, our government recognizes that it is more important than ever to support the arts and invest in artistic infrastructure,” said Guilbeault in a statement.

“We are proud to fund the Bridgeworks Community Space, which will provide a state-of-the-art creative facility for artists to rehearse and showcase their talent.”

The funding is an investment from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund that helps support renovations and refurbishments that will transform buildings into community spaces dedicated to supporting all the genres of performance, music, and arts.

Professional artists, community groups, and cultural organizations will be able to practice, rehearse, and perform in the new community space.

Supercrawl’s development will be a cultural space with capacity for about 500 people and will improve access to arts and culture in Hamilton’s downtown.
