COVID-19 vaccine now available for Hamilton residents aged 50+ in two hotspots

If you’re 50 years of age or older, and living in one of two identified COVID-19 hotspots in Hamilton, you may be able to get your vaccine now.

As part of the provincial government’s plan to target COVID-19 hotspots across Ontario for vaccine rollout, specific groups of Hamilton residents living in the L8W and L9C postal codes are being made eligible for a shot.

The official announcement made by Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Wednesday identified that residents ages 18 and up in these neighbourhoods would soon be eligible for a vaccine, but didn’t give a specific timeline.

“This booking tool does not currently offer online booking for hot spots for those between the ages of 18 and 49 in designated hot spots,” reads a note on the Ontario COVID-19 vaccine booking portal.

“If you are in this age group, please wait for further communication from your public health unit about when and how you can get your vaccine. At this time, they are available for targeted high-risk settings only.”

Though the eligibility is not currently so wide, Friday morning did see vaccines open up in the identified hotspots for residents 50 and up.

Eligible residents in these hotspots can book their vaccine appointment through the province’s online booking tool.

More details are still to come for when eligibility further widens to addition age groups.
