Member of Parliament for Hamilton West – Ancaster – Dundas, Filomena Tassi, announced last week that the Government of Canada is taking immediate action to provide high-speed internet to rural and remote communities around Hamilton.
Through the Universal Broadband Fund Radio Response Stream, the federal government will be providing over $352,000 to bring high-speed internet to rural parts of Ontario.
Access to reliable high-speed internet has become even more important during #COVID19. A new investment of $352K+ through the #UBF will bring high-speed Internet to 5 rural communities in the #HamOnt area: https://t.co/QRKvpwUxwq pic.twitter.com/RTDIdqjC37

An additional investment is also being made of $626,000 from Bell Canada as part of the project that will include connecting 362 undeserved households in Millgrove, Pleasant View Survey, Dundas, Capetown, and Ancaster.
“Today’s important high-speed Internet investment of over $352,000 is fantastic news for the communities of Millgrove, Pleasant View Survey, Copetown, Dundas and Ancaster,” said MP Tassi.
“Easier access to high-speed Internet means better connectivity for work, school and business. This is what the Rapid Response Stream of the Universal Broadband Fund is all about: helping ready-to-go projects receive faster approval so construction can start and more communities can be connected to high-speed Internet and the world.”
The announcement was part of a promise from the Government of Canada to significantly improve critical infrastructure in Ontario.
During COVID-19 shutdowns and stay at home orders, many people in Ontario rely on the internet to work and stay connected.
The federal government has a goal to provide 100% connectivity to high-speed internet by the year 2030.
