Hamilton organizations are developing an online platform to report hate crimes

The Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion, Spectrum Hamilton, and members of the McMaster University community are working together to develop an online platform where witnesses and victims of hate crimes can safely report any incidents

One of the main purposes of the online platform is to accurately track the number of hate crimes in the city as well as offer support and resources to those who need it.

According to the McMaster website, the project is still in the research stage with a view to move into focus groups in the near future.

Although the project is still in its early stages, the platform is intended to extend an immediate support avenue for those affected by hate crimes.

The project is being focus-grouped by McMaster students who are asking different members of the community to find out what people want to see within the platform.

As of right now, there is no expected date the platform will be completed, but it sounds like McMaster is working to help create a brighter vision of equality in Hamilton.

Hamilton has a history with serious incidents of hate crime around the city. In 2019, Hamilton had one of the highest number of police-reported hate crimes per capita in Canada.
