Hamilton residents aged 50+ in five ‘hot spots’ can now get a COVID-19 vaccine

If you’re a Hamilton resident over the age of 50 and you live in one of five select postal codes, you’re now eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

The move is the result of an announcement from the Ontario government this week that the vaccine rollout plan would start to target those living in COVID-19 “hot spots” across the province, which will soon expand further to include eligible residents ages 18 and over.

The province identified Hamilton postal codes L8W and L9C for eligibility, with Hamilton public health adding L8L, L8N, and L9K to the list.

Currently, residents living in any of those five postal codes who are the age of 50 or over can now book their appointment for COVID-19 vaccine; however, the way to do so varies depending on the postal code.

Residents aged 50 and up in L8W and L9C are able to book their appointment at one of the city’s large-scale clinics through the province’s online COVID-19 vaccine booking portal. Alternatively, they can call Hamilton public health’s COVID-19 hotline at 905-974-9848, option 7.

However, residents aged 50 and up in L8L, L8N, and L9K cannot book through the online portal and must exclusively call the city’s COVID-19 hotline at 905-974-9848, option 7.

Regardless, any eligible residents must book an appointment to receive their shot; no walk-in appointments will be available at any of the city’s clinics.

It is expected that residents of the aforementioned Hamilton hot spots who are between the ages of 18 and 49 will soon become eligible to book appointments as well; however, a clear timeline has yet to be given.
