If you’re 40 years old or order in Hamilton, you can now officially book an appointment to receive the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
It’s part of an Ontario-wide expansion of eligibility for AstraZeneca’s vaccine, which had until recently been limited only to residents ages 55 and up while awaiting approval from Health Canada that the vaccine was safe for residents in younger age groups; groups in which rare blood clotting events had been observed.
As of April 20, Ontarians aged 40+ can receive the AstraZeneca #COVID19 vaccine at pharmacy or primary care settings. All Health Canada approved vaccines are safe, effective and the best way to protect you and your loved ones.

Now that Health Canada approval has come through confirming the vaccine is safe for use in younger populations, residents ages 40 and up can book an appointment through pharmacies and primary care settings.
This comes as Ontario residents and officials alike have been urging the province to widen vaccine eligibility as the pandemic’s third wave continues to push Ontario to record-breaking levels of infection and ICU capacity.
In fact, some say the AstraZeneca vaccine should be opened up to all residents above the age of 18 – especially those living in hotspots.
“A good start but why only 40+? People in hotspots need vaccines & Health Canada has approved AstraZeneca for anyone over 18,” reads a tweet from Ontario Liberal party leader Steven Del Duca.
Eligible Ontarians aged 40 or above can now book their vaccine appointment through the province’s online booking tool.
