Hamilton police officer who lunged at resident charged with assault

An officer with the Hamilton Police Service has been charged with assault following an incident earlier this year in which he terrorized a resident at their home in the east end.

This comes after security footage widely shared on social media depicting Constable Ian Milburn and an officer colleague responding to a tenant/resident dispute at King Street East and Sherman Avenue on February 11th around 4:30 pm.

The 2-minute video shows Const. Milburn outside the east end residence’s front entrance, exchanging words with the resident through their door. Milburn is seen to be antagonizing the resident and acting aggressively.

After a few minutes of interaction, the video ends with Milburn lunging towards the resident in their doorway, prompting the resident to slam their door shut in fear as Milburn then walks away laughing.

The incident and subsequent backlash on social media were followed by Hamilton Police opening an investigation, which has since been completed with Const. Milburn being charged with Assault Level One.

Milburn is expect to appear in court on July 13th, and has been placed on administrative duties with no contact with the public.
