United Kingdom is testing in-person events of more than 3,000 people

While many of us in Hamilton are sitting around during a third wave and another stay-at-home order, people in the U.K. have been out partying all weekend.

Test events throughout the U.K. were held over the Mayday Bank Holiday that attracted thousands of people in order to see if the vaccination roll-out has been successful and the threat of COVID-19 has reduced.

The first pilot event was held on Friday in a warehouse in Liverpool in the northwest of England was sponsored by the federal government and closely monitored by public health officials.

Attendees were tested before and after the event, while researchers will study air quality and movement in the venue.

A second clubbing event of the same size was held on Saturday and a concert that had 5,000 people out to watch the musical act Blossoms at Liverpool’s Sefton Park took place on Sunday.

All of these test events will culminate at Wembley Stadium on May 15th where one quarter of the capacity crowd of 21,000 will gather to watch the F.A. Cup soccer final.

As some places in the world are getting closer to what was normal, us in Hamilton seem quite far off with schools still closed and non-essential businesses still shut down. The Ontario vaccine roll-out is set to ramp up later this month when everyone over 18 years old will qualify for a vaccination.

Currently, Hamilton residents 18 years of age and older living in one of the city’s designated hotspots can book their COVID-19 vaccine appointments.
