Someone in the UK compared Grimsby, Ontario with Grimsby, Lincolnshire

Many towns and cities across Ontario are named after similar places abroad and often we are wondering how our municipal counterparts compare to the locations we know.

And now, someone in the United Kingdom has taken the steps to compare Grimsby, Lincolnshire and Grimsby, Ontario and actually found a lot of similarities between the two waterfront towns

One thing that was pointed out in the article for the Grimsby Telegraph was that while Grimsby in the UK makes food, Grimsby, Ontario makes drinks.

Grimsby, Lincolnshire is one of Europe’s centres of seafood processing and fishing history, which Grimsby, Ontario also had up to the 1960s.

The Niagara Region is one of the world’s most premiere wine countries producing some of the most high-end alcohol in Canada.

Both towns also used to be an industrial centre with Grimsby, Ontario home to a number of industries developed in the area. Since the turn of the 21st Century, the Canadian town has been more known for its wine, fruit, and residential communities.

As well, both towns have a renewable industry with a lot of their power and energy coming from natural sources. Municipalities in Niagara often use hydroelectric power from the local river and waterfalls.

Although there are some incredibly stretched similarities, the differences are a little more apparent with Grimsby in the UK being a port town and locals being called Grimsbarians rather than Grimsbonians in Canada.
