A $10,000 mural commission is being offered for a Hamilton artist

Hamilton visual artists, take note: submissions are now open for local artists and arts collectives who want to be considered for a new public art commission of $10,000.

It’s a commission from Personal Mortgage Group, which is working with arts advocacy organization Cobalt Connects to find a local artists who can design a bold, modern mural for the exterior wall of 233 Queen Street South here in Hamilton.

Applications will be reviewed and considered based on the artist’s experience and the artistic merit of their artwork samples.

At this stage, Hamilton-based artists and arts collectives need only submit an expression of interest statement, their resumes, a reference, and some samples of their work; a proposal for the commissioned artwork itself is not yet required.

The successful applicant will receive a total fee of $10,000, exclusive of HST, which is intended to cover an artist fee, all equipment and materials, site preparation, insurance costs, and any permit fees.

Cobalt Connects will assist the artist with accessing City of Hamilton permits for the project.

Submissions for the mural commission are due via email by July 26th, 2021 and can be sent to Kim Selman at kim@cobaltconnects.ca.
