An early sign of better days ahead, Hamilton currently has zero active outbreaks of COVID-19 for the first time in nearly 10 months.
This is according to the most recent update on the city’s own public record of the status of COVID-19 cases in Hamilton.
At the heights of the pandemic, Hamilton was known to have as many as a few dozen active outbreaks at once, between retirement and long-term care facilities, medical clinics, schools, workplaces, restaurants, and other businesses and institutions.
With a decline in daily COVID-19 cases and outbreaks, the need for COVID-19 testing has also declined. Hamilton will be scaling back the number of testing and assessment centres in the city in the coming weeks

Some of these outbreaks were relatively small at only a couple of confirmed COVID-19 cases. Others hit devastating heights, with well over 100 cases – and some tragic fatalities – attached to some outbreaks.
But now, as vaccination efforts continue to roll out rapidly for first and second doses, and new confirmed case counts drop considerably across the city and the province as a whole, Hamilton is currently experiencing no outbreaks at all for the first time in the better part of a year.
The current number of known active COVID-19 cases in Hamilton is at 92 as of Monday, July 5th, with just 8 new cases confirmed today.
To date, the coronavirus has infected 21,319 Hamilton residents since the pandemic first hit the city last March, with 400 associated deaths.
Hamilton residents who still haven’t received their first or second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine are strongly urged to do so. More details and options for how to book an appointment are available on the city website.
