Hamilton’s COVID-19 vaccine clinics now allow walk-ins for first doses

Getting your COVID-19 vaccine in Hamilton just got a little bit easier.

If you’re aged 12 and up and you’ve yet to receive even your first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, the city’s large-scale vaccine clinics are now accepting walk-ins for the first time.

Up until now, any of Hamilton’s city-run vaccine clinics have required an appointment to be booked in advance by phone or through Ontario’s online booking portal; a process that ran smoothly for some, but were frustratingly complicated and uncooperative for others.

But now, as the city’s vaccination rates have ramped up considerably with more and more residents having received at least one dose of a vaccine, local public health is allowing residents who currently haven’t received any of their doses yet to simply show up to one of Hamilton’s large-scale clinics.

This new policy is effective today, July 8th, and applies to the clinics at FirstOntario Centre, St. Joseph’s Healthcare West 5th Campus, Hamilton Health Sciences, and ArcelorMittal Dofasco.

Hamilton residents who still need a second vaccine dose will still be required to book an appointment, which can be done through the province’s online booking portal or by calling 1-888-999-6488.

To date, the city has administered 598,237 vaccine doses in total; a number that combines first and second doses.
