Walk-in doses of the COVID-19 vaccine begin today in Hamilton

Getting your COVID-19 vaccine in Hamilton just got easier.

As of today – Thursday, July 15th – the large-scale COVID-19 vaccination clinic at FirstOntario Centre is accepting walk-ins for both first and second doses for the first time ever.

The city has already been offering walk-ins for first doses since last week, and has now added second doses for all residents ages 12 and up who have received one jab of a vaccine at least 28 days prior and want accelerated access to their booster for full immunity.

Those who have already booked their second doses for a later date are also able to arrive at FirstOntario Centre as a walk-in to rebook their second dose for any time at least 28 days after receiving their first dose.

Public health stresses how important it is for all eligible Hamiltonians to get both required doses of one of the mRNA vaccines for optimal protection, particularly against some of the emerging COVID-19 variants of concern, including the more transmissible Delta variant.

To date, the city has administered roughly 656,233 doses of COVID-19 vaccine; a number that includes both first and second doses.

So far, more than 73.5 per cent of eligible adults over 18 have received a vaccine to date, with 55.4 per cent having received both doses.

Additionally, 62 per cent of Hamilton residents ages 12 to 17 have received their first dose, with 25.2 per cent so far having received both doses.

Vaccination is the key to returning to normalcy amid the pandemic, and public health strongly encourages all Hamilton residents to get their vaccine as soon as possible.
