Quick as a blink, election day is here in Canada; and residents of Hamilton are heading out to cast their ballots.
Unexpectedly, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called for a snap election two years before a mandated election on October 16th, 2023.
With the election officially called on August 15th and voting day set for September 20th, this marks one of the shortest election campaigns in Canadian history at only 36 days.

Despite the haste, the 44th Federal Election nonetheless feels like a very important one, with some of the hottest voter issues including pressing ones like pandemic recovery, climate action affordability, Indigenous reconciliation, and housing.
Canadian citizens who are 18 years of age or older are eligible to vote, and will need to bring along their voter information cards along with an accepted photo ID that proves identity and home address.
Those without a valid ID displaying their photo and address can bring along two pieces of ID as long as one of them contains a current home address.
Polls will be open for 12 hours today between 9:30 am and 9:30 pm for Hamiltonians who didn’t vote in the advance polls to cast their ballots at the polling station listed on their voter card.
Proof of vaccination is not required at polling stations in Hamilton, but masks will be mandatory for all visitors.
Get out there and vote, Hamilton!
