Hamilton’s Fora Outdoor Living blossoms into its second anniversary

One of the Hamilton’s newest garden centres and nurseries is about to celebrate a meaningful milestone.

Fora Outdoor Living, with a thriving location in Ancaster as well as one out in Norwich, is a garden centre and outdoor living showroom that focuses just as much on its selection of plants as it does on its wide range of outdoor furniture, décor, cooking equipment, and more.

The family-owned garden centre is approaching its second anniversary; a particularly special achievement given that, not too long ago, Fora Outdoor Living was little more than a dream.

It was just a few years ago that owner Marty Verhey made the bold decision to leave behind his family business after 13 years and pursue his desires to open his own Dutch-inspired garden centre; and it wasn’t long before his concept was coming to life.

“In Holland, garden centres are more than just places to buy house plants or mulch,” explains Fora Outdoor Living.

In fact, Dutch garden centres are known to provide more rounded, interactive shopping experiences than a lot of North American counterparts, with the opportunity to enjoy a meal at an onsite café, see live demonstrations of outdoor cooking equipment, take part in workshops, and even buy groceries.

That kind of experience is exactly what Verhey is steadily working towards with his Ancaster and Norwich garden centres.

Of course, he and his team have decked Fora out with all of the usual garden centre fare, which is plentifully stacked with a wide range of outdoor garden staples from flowers to trees, house plants, indoor and outdoor décor, and more.

But on top of that, both locations seasonally offer fun interactive workshops for small groups, including wreath-building and pizza-making. Fora in Ancaster and Norwich will also soon have cafes opening that will offer sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers, coffee, and other café-style bites.

Fortuitously, the official launch of both cafes coincides with this year’s second anniversary festivities, which Fora is hosting at each location for free for two consecutive days on October 1st and 2nd, 2021; and they’ve got some exciting stuff planned.

The Ancaster location has partnered with The Mom Market Collective – a Hamilton-based group that supports small vendors and artisans – to bring in over 20 local makers offering products ranging from handmade clothing items to accessories to candles to home décor and beyond.

On top of that, there will be ambassadors on site giving live cooking demonstrations with some of the brands Fora carries, such as Big Green Egg and Fontana Pizza Ovens.

Fora is also celebrating the special occasion by offering sales and promotions on all kinds of products for anyone who’s looking to get a great deal on some new stuff for their home and garden.

Though the past year hasn’t been easy for many small businesses, it’s thrilling to see Fora Outdoor Living not just succeed, but thrive after being built from the ground up only two years ago here in Hamilton.

Fora Outdoor Living is celebrating their second anniversary on October 1st and 2nd (dog friendly!) at their Ancaster location at 591 Fiddlers Green Road. Check out full event details here.
