Hamilton arts centre moves from James North to Victoria Avenue

One of James Street North’s most prominent not-for-profit arts institutions is leaving its home on the strip and setting its sights on a brand new location in Hamilton.

Factory Media Centre, an arts centre specializing in the production of independent film and multimedia projects, has been active at 228 James North for over 15 years while also playing a role as a regular Art Crawl destination and occasional live performance venue.

But thanks to a generous $150,000 capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Factory Media Centre is shifting its home base to an accessible, affordable, and modernized media arts hub in the gorgeous building at 366 Victoria Avenue North.

The space will feature larger facilities than their small storefront space on James North, opening the door to a greater number of projects produced on a greater scale.

“Our new and improved multi-faceted space will be equipped with a sound stage for large productions, a 500 square foot gallery, and amenities for members, including an editing suite, sound recording and multimedia studio, and equipment storage,” says Kristina Durka, Operations Coordinator for Factory Media Centre.

“FMC is excited to embark on this next chapter while ensuring a commitment to accessibility, inclusiveness, and diversity within the industry. We will invite the community to gather in celebration at our new space once the renovations are complete.”
