Ontario is anticipated to lift capacity restrictions within more venues where they’re still in place, including restaurants, bars, and fitness centres.
Premier Doug Ford is set to make an official announcement on Friday afternoon, allowing those spaces to operate at 100 per cent capacity; something that has already been granted to spaces like live performance venues and cinemas.

The moves comes amid strong vaccination rates Ontario-wide as well as positive and consistent trends for new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province, which have remained under 500 new cases reported per day for nearly two weeks.
As of now, gyms and fitness centres in the province are limited to a maximum 50 per cent capacity, and restaurants are also operating under limited capacities in order to accommodate physical distancing between tables indoors.
Proof of vaccination will still be required in those settings for the near future, with only individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 permitted for indoor activities such as dining.
Sources say that the Ford government is also considering an “opt-in” option for other businesses where proof of vaccination isn’t currently required to lift their capacity limits by enforcing proof of vaccination.
Premier Ford’s public announcement is expected at 2 pm this afternoon.
