Hamilton administers over 1 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines

In an encouraging milestone, the City of Hamilton has officially exceeded one million doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered.

A release from the city on December 24th shared the positive news while giving thanks to the dedicated partnership and tireless work of Hamilton Public Health Services, Hamilton Health Sciences, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, Hamilton Paramedic Services, and countless primary care providers, pharmacies, and community partners city-wide.

Much of the recent vaccine rollout has been to accelerate third booster doses for those who have already received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The booster campaign is in response to evidence of general waning vaccine immunity around the six-month mark after a second dose was administered, as well as a response to the unprecedented spread of the Omicron variant, for which a third vaccine dose is shown to provide robust protection.

“Hamilton healthcare partners and organizations from across the community have worked around the clock to plan a significant expansion of local COVID-19 vaccine capacity to ensure as many Hamiltonians as possible, as quickly as possible, are able to receive the strong protection getting fully vaccinated and receiving a third dose of vaccine provides against COVID-19 and the highly-transmissible Omicron variant,” reads the release from the city.

Hamilton continues to administer first, second, and third doses of the COVID-19 vaccines through large-scale vaccine clinics, pop-up clinics, pharmacies, and primary care providers.

More information, including appointment bookings, can be seen on the city website at Hamilton.ca/GetYourVaccine.
