Hamilton will open COVID-19 vaccine boosters to residents aged 50+

Following direction from the Ontario government, the City of Hamilton will soon open eligibility for COVID-19 vaccine boosters to residents ages 50 and above.
Beginning December 13th at 8 am, Hamilton residents 50 years old and up will be eligible to book an appointment for a third booster dose, as long as at least 6 months (or 168 days) have passed since they completed their second dose.
Effective December 13, 2021 at 8am, Hamilton residents ages 50+ are eligible to book an appointment to receive a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine if at least six months (168 days) have passed since their last dose.

Booster doses are recommended in response to mounting evidence of gradually waning immunity around six months after receiving both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. A booster will add an extra layer of protection and a, well, boost of immunity.
There are some additional high-risk groups that have been made eligible for third doses as well.
“Due to a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19, effective immediately individuals receiving dialysis (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) are eligible to receive a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine if it has been 56 days since their second dose,” reads a release from the city.
“Also, effective immediately, the Province is recommending re-vaccination with a new COVID-19 vaccine primary series post-transplantation for individuals who receive hematopoietic stem cell transplants (HSCT), hematopoietic cell transplants (HCT) (autologous or allogeneic), and recipients of CAR-T-cell therapy, due to the loss of immunity following therapy or transplant.”
Third doses will be available by appointment only, with no walk-in option. Starting December 13th at 8 am, eligible residents ages 50 and up can book through the city website or by phoning 905-974-9848, option 7.
