As COVID-19 cases continue to surge at unprecedented levels driven by the infectious Omicron variant, Mohawk College has announced its plans to keep the majority of the winter semester in an online, remote format.
Mohawk College becomes one of numerous post-secondary institutions making similar moves in the interest of public health & safety during the most aggressive wave seen so far in this pandemic.
A handful of select in-person classes will still continue at Mohawk as needed, but the majority of learning will take place virtually for the remainder of the winter semester.
Important update: The ongoing spread of the Omicron COVID-19 variant has created uncertainty for Mohawk College students and staff, and for the community. As a result, we have decided to continue to deliver the Winter 2022 semester in the current format. https://t.co/Srko0GEGQY pic.twitter.com/XCmufIdvol

Existing public health measures, including proof of vaccination and mandatory mask-wearing for any in-person activities, are still in place. However, Mohawk College will no longer be reporting COVID-19 cases associated with the college facilities.
In addition to classes, all scheduled in-person events – whether internal or external – have also been cancelled until the end of February.
“We remain committed to fully and safely reopening the college as soon as we are able in order to provide students with an opportunity to learn, grow and develop in all aspects of their education and life,” reads a message from Mohawk’s President and CEO Ron J. McKerlie.
“Many students have indicated that they would like to return to campus so they can experience in-person extracurricular activities, greater social connections and large events. Should conditions improve and we are able to safely bring more students on campus, we may introduce optional campus activities for students to experience.”
