This beloved Hamilton coffee shop has closed its doors

One of Hamilton’s best coffee shops has sadly announced its closure.

Salty Espresso, a staple of the Corktown neighbourhood serving up caringly crafted coffee and espresso alongside an enticing menu of brunch bites, has been in operation in the former home of Pinecone Coffee for nearly 5 years.

Owned and operated by Dahlia Ishak and Ray Turner, Salty Espresso was launched by the pair after moving to the city from Australia in an effort to bring some of the Aussie café experience to Hamilton.

“When Ray and I moved here from Australia, Salty Espresso was the space through which we were able to build friendships and connect to this amazing city,” said Ishak in a post on social media. “We are so thankful for these wonderful years where we enjoyed a bustling shop filled with community, friends and good times.”

Thankfully, the departure of Salty Espresso will see one door close and another open up wide, as Ishak and Turner tease exciting things to come for the café space at 175 John Street South.

“This next phase sparks us with joy because it involves passing the torch to very special friends and former members of Salty’s team and story,” adds Ishak.

“It’s heartwarming to know that this space will live on for the neighbourhood and community. Hint: there will still be delicious coffee (… and more).”

Details of the intriguing new project taking over after Salty Espresso will be announced in the coming months.
