Harper’s Market on the Hamilton Mountain has been destroyed by a fire

Harper’s Market on the Hamilton Mountain has been destroyed by a structure fire that occurred overnight on Tuesday.

Hamilton Fire responded to the blaze at around 10 pm on Tuesday, February 1st, with emergency crews sent to Harper’s Market’s location on the east mountain at 178 Nebo Road.

They shared images of the fire on social media on Tuesday evening, indicated that crews would be on the scene for ‘some time.’ A follow-up tweet reads that ‘crews have been pulled out of the building. This is now a defensive operation.’

The fire became so large that it was soon upgraded to a multiple-alarm fire, requiring a forced power outage in the area surrounding Harper’s Market for safety reasons.

Harper’s Market was formerly known as Scoly’s Hometown Market, and is an independent grocery story on the Hamilton Mountain that functions as a sister operation to Harper’s Garden Centre.

More to come.
