Popular Hamilton shop for imported treasures is closing after 31 years

A beloved shop in Hamilton known for its unique imported finds – and its eye-catching kaleidoscope mural – has announced that it is closing up shop after 31 years.

Grasshopper Imports has long been an attention-grabbing attraction along Highway 6 North in Flamborough, with many passersby stopping to admire and take photos of the shop’s vibrantly colourful mural on the side of the building.

But those who ventured inside were met with even more beautiful surprises, with Grasshopper Imports’ diverse and ever-changing range of imported goods from places like Mexico, Nepal, Indonesia, Thailand, and more.

Unique clothing finds, home décor, jewellery, scarves, handbags, accessories, and beyond lined the shelves of the shop, with artisans and styles not easily found elsewhere in the Hamilton area.

After being a local fixture for decades, owners Angela and Greg Betts have announced that they’re winding down the business throughout April with plans to start a new personal life chapter.

“It has been 31 years of incredibly gratifying connections, growth and grooviness,” reads a note from Angela and Greg Betts on social media. “We simply could not have done this without you. Thank you.”

Grasshopper Imports is hosting a closing sale through the rest of April, beginning on April 15th and 16th as well as April 19th through to the 30th. The shop will be closed on Mondays, then open Tuesday to Thursday from 10 am to 2pm and Friday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.
