Hamilton brewery marks 5-year anniversary with five new beers

One of Hamilton’s most popular craft breweries is celebrating its 5-year anniversary, and has released a bunch of limited release beers to mark the occasion.

MERIT Brewing has been a local staple ever since opening on James Street North back in 2017. Its airy atmosphere and large, communal tables are inspired by European-style beer hall vibes, complemented by a rotating menu of beer brewed-in house, sausages, bar snacks, and more.

MERIT’s popularity and reputation haven’t waned in the years since it first opened, with the brewery earning particular notoriety for its ever-changing lineup of beers, from new-world IPAs to fruited sours to beer/wine hybrids and barrel-aged fare.

Those styles are well-represented in MERIT’s five limited releases brewed in celebration of their 5th anniversary with a formidable list of collaborators.

The beers include Ocean Meets the Land, an East Coast lager in collaboration with 2 Crows Brewing in Halifax; A Dream About Love, a hazy double IPA made with Milton’s Third Moon Brewing; and a West Coast IPA called Wind Waker, a collaboration with Four Winds Brewing in Delta, BC.

The rest of the special drops get even more enticing with Day Ones, a tart grisette with Indian coriander and grapefruit made in partnership with Hamilton’s own Fairweather Brewing; and Wild Years, a brett saison conditioned on Niagara peaches and Muscat grape skins from Fielding Estates Winery.

MERIT Brewing has become a destination for craft beer fanatics and casual sippers alike, and it’s not unlikely they’ll continue to be a Hamilton staple for many more years to come!
