Heat warning issued for Hamilton today

Crank the A/C and put on your lightest clothes, because Hamilton’s medical officer of health has issued a heat warning for this week.

According to a release from the city, a heat event is expected on Wednesday, June 15th and Thursday, June 16th, with daytime highs expected to hit 30 to 33 degrees Celsius with a humidex of 40.

Overnight temperatures are forecasted to remain pretty high, only reaching lows of 20 to 22 degrees Celsius with negligible relief from the heat and humidity.

It’s expected that conditions will improve by Thursday evening, particularly in areas that receive showers and thunderstorms.

In response to the heat warning, the city will be offering designated “cool places” accessible to locals who need a place to take a break from the hot weather. Those locations will be marked with a “Cool Down Here” sign at the entrance.

It is highly recommended that Hamilton residents remember to stay hydrated, go to an air-conditioned place if possible, limit physical activity, wear light clothing, and keep their living spaces cool by keeping blinds closed and air circulating.
