GO Train service between Hamilton and Toronto is being reduced

It seems that GO Train service between Hamilton and Toronto is going to get worse before it gets better.

Rather than continuing to expand the convenient train service between Hamilton’s West Harbour and Toronto’s Union Station, GO Transit has announced that they’ll be cutting back on daily service in both westbound and eastbound directions.

Beginning on Tuesday, September 6 following the Labour Day long weekend, the westbound trains at 7:45 pm, 8:45 pm, and 9:45 pm departing Union Station will stop short of West Harbour, instead making Burlington’s Aldershot Station the final stop and providing bus connections to Hamilton from there.

Westbound service from the 8:45 pm train on will only operate on an hourly basis, and trains departing Union Station at 9:15 pm, 10:15 pm, and 11:15 pm will stop at Exhibition Station only.

Additionally, eastbound trains that would typically depart Hamilton’s West Harbour Station at 9:13 pm, 10:13 pm, and 11:13 pm will instead depart hourly from Aldershot Station at 9:10 pm, 10:10 pm, and 11:10 pm, with bus connections available between West Harbour and Aldershot.

GO Transit has said that these inconvenient changes are only temporary, and are in place due to construction of an underpass under the Lakeshore West Corridor related to the Hurontario LRT.

When these services will be adjusted again remains to be seen.
