Hamilton’s MacNab Transit Terminal has officially been renamed

MacNab Transit Terminal, Hamilton’s central hub for the Hamilton Street Railway (HSR), has officially been renamed the Frank A. Cooke Transit Terminal.

A civic dedication ceremony was held at the newly renamed terminal on September 12, with members of city council, city staff, members of the public, and members of the Cooke family present to mark the occasion.

Frank A. Cooke has been recognized for his four decade-long career with the HSR, his dedication to public transportation in Hamilton, and his volunteer efforts to the community.

“Frank A. Cooke was a distinguished public servant who exemplified a strong sense of duty toward his community,” said Mayor Fred Eisenberger.

“Throughout his life, Mr. Cooke championed public transit in Hamilton and beyond, and remained an engaged citizen who worked to build and improve our city.”

New signage has been erected at the 1 MacNab Street South terminal, which now reads Frank A. Cooke Transit Terminal; a major point of pride for the Cooke family.

“Our family is honoured that our Grampa’s legacy as a champion for public transit across Canada is being recognized in the city that he called home for 100 years,” said Terry Cooke, grandson of Frank A. Cooke.

“Frank Cooke was deeply dedicated to his family, to Hamilton and to the HSR.”
