Highway 403 closure to cause traffic trouble in Hamilton

The City of Hamilton is warning locals of potentially considerable traffic disruptions this weekend due to a closure of Highway 403 westbound between Highway 6 and King Street West.

Beginning Friday, September 30th at 11 pm and ending Monday, October 3rd at 5 am, the closure is due to some rehabilitation work along the 403 including replacement of asphalt, concrete patch repairs, removal of some deteriorating concrete, replacement of a concrete median on the Old Guelph Road structure, and repaving Macklin Street within the Ministry of Transportation right-of-way.

As a result of the closure, drivers from the highway will need to detour along the Queen Elizabeth Way and Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway. Drivers from the westbound 403 will be detoured onto Highway 6.

Traffic delays can also be expected on adjacent arterial roads like Main Street, King Street, and surrounding streets in Hamilton’s lower city.

Additionally, Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) passengers on the 5 Delaware, 6 Aberdeen, 7 Locke, 8 York, 9 Rock Gardens, 10 B-Line, 11 Parkdale, and 51 University routes may experience delays due to heavy traffic and should plan the timing of their trip accordingly.
