Art Gallery of Hamilton awarded $148,100 from Ontario government

The Art Gallery of Hamilton (AGH) is celebrating a recent grant of $148,100 courtesy of the Government of Ontario’s Trillium Foundation.

The generous funding – to be used over 12 months from May 2022 to May 2023 – will allow the AGH to re-envision and expand their annual festival while recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To spearhead this work, the AGH has used some of the grant money to hire a one-year festival director to oversee the redesign and relaunching of the gallery’s festival, while also expanding it beyond a film festival to include other artistic disciplines like music, theatre, visual art, and more.

2022 marked the first year that the AGH Festival assumed this format, presenting an eclectic 10-day event that included live performance, special concerts, showcases, screenings, talks, and beyond.

“The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s support was instrumental in helping us re-shape and reimagine our annual Festival to more fully celebrate the wide range of culture and creativity in Hamilton,” said Shelley Falconer, President and CEO of the Art Gallery of Hamilton.

“It has been a wonderful ten days of music, film, performances, and fun! Celebrating the talents of not only our exhibiting artists but also many more creatives from across the city of Hamilton.”

The AGH is also currently collecting feedback from attendees of the revised 2022 festival to determine what was or was not successful about the event.
