GO Transit workers reach tentative deal with Metrolinx

After a week-long strike action that saw all GO Bus service suspended, unionized GO Transit workers have reached a tentative deal with transit agency Metrolinx.

The deal still needs to be reviewed by workers, but GO buses will be returning to the road this Saturday after a week that saw only train service in operation.

According to an announcement from the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1587, the deal struck with Metrolinx includes “significant contracting out protection, improved work-life balance, and a path to full-time work for some part-time workers.”

The strike officially began on November 6th, with roughly 2,200 GO Transit workers walking off the job after Metrolinx failed to come to the table with a satisfying agreement to address ongoing employment concerns.

“Brothers and sisters, you did it,” reads a message on the ATU Local 1587 Facebook page.

“By linking arms and walking off the job together, you gave our bargaining team the power to win.”
