Hamilton opens up flu shots to the general public today

All Hamilton residents are able to get their annual flu vaccine for 2022 as of today, November 1st.

Ontario public health has announced that flu shots are widely available to individuals free of charge through family medical clinics, some local public health units, and participating pharmacies.

While some places may allow for walk-ins, pharmacies like Shoppers Drug Mart also provide the option to book an appointment for the flu shot in advance via their website.

Additionally, individuals ages 5 and up can receive their flu shot at the same time as, or any time before or after, a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine; including the new bivalent vaccine that offers protection against Omicron subvariants.

The province urges residents to get vaccinated against the flu and COVID-19 to enter the fall and winter with as much protection as possible.

“This year’s flu season is taking place at the same time as COVID-19. Don’t take any unnecessary risks with your health,” reads a note from Ontario public health.

“Get the flu shot as early in the season as possible, as soon as it becomes available to you.”
