Sew Hungry 2020 has been cancelled

Another heartbreaker in the steady stream of closures and cancellations amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Hamilton’s tastiest annual festival of street food has pulled the plug on its 2020 edition.

Sew Hungry, an award-winning Hamilton street festival that brings all of the hottest food trucks and curbside culinary experiences to Ottawa Street every year, gave the official word this morning that this year’s festival, set to happen on May 9th, will be outright cancelled in the midst of this uncertain, ongoing global pandemic.

“It is important to us to do our part to protect our community members, vendors, volunteers and attendees by helping slow the progression of COVID-19,” said the Sew Hungry team in a statement.

“This attempt to ‘flatten the curve’ is a public health strategy to slow the spread of the virus, to contain it and to allow time to respond. We believe that the health and safety of our community is of utmost importance at this time.”

While the cancellation surely leaves lots of local foodies feeling broken-hearted and empty-bellied, Hamiltonians have been assured that Sew Hungry will be returning again full-force in May 2021.
