Two Hamilton restaurants are giving free meals to personal support workers and retirement staff today

Two of Hamilton’s favourite downtown restaurants are back at it again today, offering free meals to more of the city’s essential frontline workers as they continue to put themselves at risk each day.

An ongoing initiative spearheaded by trendy taco joint Mezcal and elevated pub favourite One Duke – two fixtures of the food scene on James South – the restaurants have joined forces to offer free meals to frontline workers as a gesture of gratitude and recognition of their invaluable services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each week, Mezcal and One Duke single out a different category of essential worker to extend the offer to, providing food so far to HSR operators, paramedics, and bank employees.

This week sees another beyond-worthy group getting recognized: personal support workers, healthcare aides, and all staff from retirement communities and care facilities.

“For many of us the severity of the situation seems less intensified with each passing day,” said the restaurants in a social media post. “But we must continue to fight against COVID-19 and acknowledge that the reality for most of us is much different than it is for PSWs & healthcare aides, chefs and all other staff in retirement communities.”

Hamiltonians who work in these fields are invited to hit up Mezcal or One Duke today between 3 pm and 8 pm to get a hot meal on the house.
