King William Street’s dining district is now open, block closed to car traffic

With Hamilton officially entering Phase Two of reopening today, many local restaurants and bars are jumping at the chance to reopen their outdoor patios and accept guests once again for a physically-distanced dining experience.

This, of course, will include most of the immensely popular spots on King William Street’s restaurant row; a central downtown block which features everything from laidback foodie favourites like The Mule or Hambrgr, to atmospheric fine dining experiences like The French or The Diplomat.

In order to accommodate the influx of diners in a safe and physically distanced manner, King William’s restaurants will be spilling over their patios into the road.

This was made possible by a motion that city council passed back in May to build “outdoor dining districts” that can accommodate additional patio seating in adjacent roadways and parking lots; a move that will allow King William’s restaurants with smaller patio spaces to branch out and accommodate more diners at once.

As a result of these changes, one block of King William Street – between James Street North and Hughson Street North – will be closed to vehicle traffic between 10 am and 10 pm each day to allow for this expanded, properly distanced patio seating.

So, what King William restaurants can Hamilton foodies hit up this weekend for patio service? The confirmed restaurants currently include The Mule, The Diplomat, The French, Hambrgr, Sagarmatha Curry Palace, Relay Coffee, Berkeley North, and Mezza Caffe.

Just around the corner on James North, locals can also hit up Earth to Table: Bread Bar, Uncle Ray’s Food & Liquor, and Perogie Bar.
