Hamilton’s Chocolate Tales launches late-night delivery for sweet treats

One of Hamilton’s best purveyors of all things sweet and indulgent has created a new way to satisfy those late-night cravings.

Chocolate Tales, a local institution known best for their hands-on classes and workshops in making everything from truffles to French macarons, recently launched Late Night Treats as a way to get boxes of exquisite handmade chocolate bars, truffles, cookies, and more delivered straight to your door for those times when it’s 11 pm and your sweet tooth just won’t settle down.

Available through the company’s own website as well as Skip the Dishes and UberEats, Chocolate Tales’ new Late Night Treats service isn’t just a fun and novel concept; it’s also one born out of necessity amid the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Chocolate Tales’ primarily event-based business model.

“On March 12th, we were set to have the best month we have ever had at Chocolate Tales,” explains David Levy, founder of Chocolate Tales. “That morning, one after the other – our clients called in to cancel their event. Many wanted refunds, or to suspend until a date unknown.”

For a business that typically runs around 1,000 events per year from private parties to on-site workshops at their facility on York Boulevard, the urgent need for a pivot pushed Levy to focus more on the usually smaller production and retail side of the business.

“At the time about 10% of our revenue was from production, and we decided within a couple of weeks that we need to pivot (at least temporarily) into online sales of chocolate and delivery in Hamilton and across the GTA,” explains Levy.

Since then, Chocolate Tales has been selling a wide-variety of top quality chocolates and other sweet treats through their website, as well as for late-night delivery through Skip the Dishes and UberEats within Hamilton on Tuesday to Thursday from 5 pm to 11 pm as well as Friday and Saturday from 7 pm to 1 am.

Just one look at Chocolate Tales’ varied offerings makes it readily clear that they’ve got something for pretty much anyone.

“All our products are made fresh, ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible, and we use chocolate that is ethical,” says Levy, adding that Chocolate Tales’ entire line of treats are peanut, tree nut, and sesame free, with some offerings that are vegan and keto friendly.

Levy hopes that these pivots for Chocolate Tales – which will hopefully be temporary – will allow the business to stay afloat through the dramatic impacts of the pandemic.

“Chocolate Tales has been around since 2009, and is really struggling right now with the realities of the pandemic,” he says.

“July, our sales were down 55% compared to last year and August was 68% lower than 2019. We are in much need of support from our community so that we can stay in business and keep providing a unique chocolate experience to all our clients.”
