A new spot for Nigerian comfort food has opened in Hamilton

For local foodies looking for an experience that’s a little different in Hamilton, a singular new spot that recently opened in Jackson Square might fit the bill.

The new takeaway spot is called Calabar Kitchen, and it specializes in offerings not all that common in Hamilton’s culinary scene: Nigerian comfort food.

Located in Jackson Square and available for takeout or delivery through Uber Eats, Calabar Kitchen was previously a humble home-based operation until recently. Now, after gaining some popularity with locals, the intriguing food spot has moved into more formal kitchen digs within the mall’s food court.

Leaning into Nigerian fast food offerings, Calabar Kitchen’s menu includes hearty rice dishes, comforting African soups such as Afang or Atama soup, beef suya skewers, and snackable dishes like scotch eggs and meat pies. Sounds delicious, right?

By all accounts, this place looks like a rare gem in a city with so few options for authentic African cuisine. Check out Calabar Kitchen to get your fix of something a little different!

Check them out on social media for more, and place your orders through Uber Eats!
