One of Locke Street’s most popular restaurants has announced that it has permanently closed its doors.
Mattson & Co, a beloved casual fine dining restaurant that has taken up residence along the Locke strip for years, broke the news via social media on Tuesday afternoon.

“This life changing decision was made after a re-evaluation of my journey thus far and recognizing I have so much more to experience in my life path,” wrote Mattson’s owner Ronn Mattai in a post on Instagram.
“I am eternally blessed to have met such amazing guests (aka: friends, old & new) who have supported me since my first restaurant on King William Street (The Junction Cafe & Aquarius Lounge) back in 2002.”
A Locke Street staple for years, Mattson & Co was known both for its elevated bistro fare as well as its live jazz music in an elegant-yet-relaxed restaurant setting. It’s large dining room and patio were frequently packed with local nightlife lovers.
Hundreds of Hamiltonians have already shared their bittersweet goodbyes and well-wishes on social media – a testament to how beloved Mattson & Co is as part of Hamilton’s restaurant scene.
The building at 225 Locke Street South won’t be open for long, though; already, Hamilton’s cozy British pub Ye Olde Squire is working to move right on in and open their doors as soon as possible.
