This classic Italian restaurant is closing after decades in Hamilton

Another beloved piece of Hamilton’s veteran food scene has announced that it is closing its doors after decades in the community.

Lo Presti’s at Maxwell’s as it exists today has been a classic spot for traditional Italian fine dining since 1994, but its history in Hamilton dates back even earlier.

The current restaurant is a result of a merger of the original Lo Presti’s with the original Maxwell’s, which was purchased by Lo Presti’s former owner Sam Cino.

However, with decades of cherished presence in the Hamilton food scene, the restaurant’s current ownership has made the decision to wind down the business completely driven by a number of factors, including the pandemic and a forthcoming development.

Lo Presti’s at Maxwell’s is equipped both with a full restaurant as well as a banquet hall space. The restaurant has been a staple for fine dining dishes like steak and seafood, with a strong leaning into Italian cuisine with numerous hearty pasta dishes.

The restaurant will hold its last service to the public on April 23rd before closing up at 165 Jackson Street East permanently.

Hamilton certainly has its fair share of Italian restaurants, but few with the enduring, classic feel and local history of Lo Presti’s at Maxwell’s.
