Popular coffee roaster is opening a cafe in Downtown Hamilton

A very popular local coffee roaster is getting ready to open its first Downtown Hamilton café.

Detour Coffee is best known for its excellent café in Dundas, serving up coffee and espresso brewed (using their beans roasted in-house) alongside a menu of bites like sandwiches, breakfast platters, baked goods, and more.

Now, the coffee roaster will be opening a new café on John Street South, taking over the former home of Salty Espresso – owned by Sunny Corner Bar’s Dahlia Ishak and Ray Turner – which closed its doors early last year.

“We’ve been in Dundas a long time, but we’ve always considered Hamilton our home since the early days,” wrote Detour Coffee in an announcement on social media.

“We’ve admired Ray and Dahlia’s spot and have been patrons ourselves for a while now and can’t wait to continue the journey of the space as a friendly neighbourhood espresso bar!!”

The new café, which Detour hopes to open to the public before the end of May, will offer a menu of coffee, espresso, and tea beverages with some bites by Dear Grain Bakery and Stipley Kitchen.

Beer, wine, and cocktails are also going to be on hand here, bringing exciting life back to this Corktown café space that, prior to being home to Salty Espresso, also housed the well-loved Pinecone Coffee.
