Hamilton beer hall transforms into tavern with burgers, pan pizza

A Euro-style beer hall in Hamilton known for its smoked meat platters and sturdy range of craft beers just got a considerable makeover.

Osten Beerhall was a foodie gem hidden in plain sight in the Crown Point neighbourhood, sharing a block with Shorty’s Pizza and 1101 Convenience.

Now, the spot has transformed into a restaurant with an entirely different concept: Bernie’s Tavern, which calls itself a ‘neighbourhood bar & grill’ and offers a menu of slightly elevated comfort dishes from burgers to pizza and more.

Locals can expect to sink their teeth into sandwiches like a Banh Mi-style brisket sandwich or a mushroom toast; as well as some pub and diner-style favourites like a chicken dinner with fries, roasted carrots, and pan jus.

Bernie’s Tavern will also offer some pies courtesy of Shorty’s Pizza, opting for a more indulgent pan pizza style instead of the thin crust New York style Shorty’s is best known for.

Domestic and craft beer, wine, and cocktails round out the menu here at this new spot that seems to balance approachability with an attention to quality.

The new restaurant – complete with a patio – is open for business now, so go check out Bernie’s Tavern at 1103 Cannon Street East to get your first tastes!
