Hamilton favourite for Thai food is closing its doors

One of Hamilton’s best restaurants for authentic Thai cuisine has announced that it is closing its doors, effective immediately.

Bambu, located at 21 John Street North, started as a location of My-Thai Restaurant: a small chain with numerous locations in the Hamilton area.

Just a handful of years ago, owner and operator Heidy Nguyen rebranded the restaurant as Bambu, making it a separate entity from My-Thai with its own robust menu of delicious and flavourful Thai cuisine, from curries to noodle dishes to stir fries and beyond.

However, Nguyen’s longstanding desire to move on to new pursuits has meant that this beloved Thai staple is sadly closing up shop permanently.

“As many of you know I have been planning to exit the restaurant business for a while now and it is finally official,” wrote Nguyen in a post on social media.

“The past 15 years with you all have been truly rewarding and I will forever be grateful for the support that the Hamilton community has given me.”

Though many Hamilton foodies are undoubtedly heartbroken by Bambu’s departure, Nguyen hints that the space won’t be empty for long as a new restaurant plans to take over soon.

What that restaurant will be remains to be seen; but keep your eyes on 21 John Street North to stay up to date on what’s to come!
