Hamilton shop known for delicious cream pies is closing

One of the sweetest spots in Hamilton will sadly soon be no more.

Mikey’s Cream Pies, open at 775 Barton Street East, started as a passion project for Hamilton local Mike Jensen, who wanted to take the baked goods he’d been whipping up for family and friends for 30 years and bring them to the public.

Open for roughly a year and a half, the shop regularly features an assortment of handmade cream pies, with options like cookies and cream, chocolate cream, banana cream, and coconut cream.

Jensen fills out his tempting menu with freshly baked cookies and butter tarts, including tarts made with Forty Creek Cream liqueur.

Though locals constantly rave about Jensen’s sweet treats, the entrepreneur has sadly announced that Mikey’s Cream Pies will be closing their Barton shop sometime in September, citing troubles with cost of materials and more.

“I have tried everything I can to make this dream work but the rising costs of packaging and ingredients along with dwindling sales have forced me to make the very tough decision to close Mikey’s Cream Pies,” wrote Jensen on social media.

Though a firm closing date has yet to be set, Mikey’s Cream Pies will remain open at least through to the end of August; so pop on by to get your fill of desserts while you can!
