Hamilton gastropub Brux House is closing its doors

One of Hamilton’s best spots for craft beer and casual fine dining has announced that it is permanently closing its doors.

Brux House, located on Locke Street, garnered plenty of attention after first opening their doors in 2014 and serving up a menu of elevated Belgian-inspired fare alongside one of the most well-curated tap lists in the city.

With a seasonally shifting menu crafted by Chef Fraser MacFarlane of Dundas bistro Quatrefoil, Brux House bridged the gap between fine dining and a more casual pub atmosphere in its cozy, intimate two-storey restaurant space.

Share plates like whole fried broccoli and house-made pretzel sticks made for an excellent precursor to mains like chicken schnitzel and duck confit, all of it well matched with an IPA from Quebec, barrel-aged saison from Belgium, or thoughtfully executed house cocktail.

“We have had the chance to learn and grow with our employees and guests to embody what it means to be an inclusive space, foster creativity, nurture talent, respect work-life balance, have fun, and get to where we are now,” wrote Brux House on social media.

“We feel the loss, but know that we are leaving on a high note to focus on our other projects.”

The heartbreaking news was rapidly met an onslaught of messages from Brux House patrons in Hamilton and beyond, lamenting the loss of this standout local restaurant.
