Popular spot for saucy sandwiches is closing its doors in Hamilton

A Hamilton spot for unique sandwiches, art, and hip-hop vibes has sadly announced it will be permanently closing its doors.

That’s My Jam, a more recent addition to restaurant row along King William Street, opened up shop just over two years ago with an intriguing menu of artisanal sandwiches, many of them featuring an enticing sweet and savoury combo of flavours and toppings.

Handhelds like the barbecue pulled pork with cherry compote or the grilled beef with tomato jam offered a delicious change of pace for foodies looking for something a little off the beaten path, complemented by sides like potato wedges, house salads, and fried Brussels sprouts.

The restaurant’s vibrant space became home to numerous fun events, and the walls were regularly used to showcase the work of local artists.

However, in spite of a strong local reputation and a community-minded approach to their business, the owners of That’s My Jam have shared the news that this current week will be the sandwich shop’s final week.

“We all worked really hard over the last 2+ years to hold on, adapt, and make it through all the hurdles, hoping to get to the other side,” wrote That’s My Jam in a post on social media.

“Fast forward to now, for one reason and another and another, it’s just not working the way that it needs to.”

The comments on their farewell post were readily flooded with locals lamenting the loss of this one-of-a-kind food spot in Hamilton; and while it’s hopefully only a goodbye for now, That’s My Jam nonetheless shared some final words worth hearing.

“Please give restaurant operators and their staff some grace before complaining about prices and service.,” they wrote.

“There is so much pressure, so much stress. A little patience goes a long way.”
