Ben Caplan joins the HPO for L’Chaim!: A Toast to Jewish Hamilton

Two of Hamilton’s most loved musical forces are banding together for one night only, courtesy of the Hamilton Jewish Federation and their launch of the 2020 Community Campaign.

The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra joins homegrown folk troubadour Ben Caplan in L’Chaim!: A Toast to Jewish Hamilton in a celebration of over 200 years of local Jewish history. The concert takes place September 8th at 4 pm at the McIntyre Performing Arts Centre within Mohawk College.

The Hamilton Jewish Federation sees the one-off musical event as one of timely importance, given the recent international rise in antisemitism and racism faced as part of our current politically turbulent climate. The evening acts both as a means of expressing solidarity with Hamilton’s Jewish community, and lively celebration of its enduring, multifaceted local impact.

Local folk music aficionados will definitely be familiar with Hamilton-born songwriter Ben Caplan, whose booming, boisterous baritone and thrillingly theatrical stage presence blends singularly with his klezmer-influenced, poetic folk compositions. Caplan has made a number of energetic, sold-out appearances in Hamilton on tour over the last few years, and recently released his 3rd studio album Old Stock, comprised of klezmer music he wrote for the stage play of the same title. Fans won’t want to miss this.

It can absolutely be expected that the HPO, heading freshly into their landmark 135th anniversary year, will also bring their usual renowned orchestral excellence to the event. This will be a great warm-up for the orchestra as they prepare for their epic 2019-20 season.

With this line-up of talent, audience members are undoubtedly in for a moving, exuberant night of music and celebration.
