The Surprise Show magically appears at The Staircase

Guess what, Hamilton: one of the city’s favourite magicians has a sweet surprise for you.

Niagara-based performer Nicholas Wallace, known for his numerous sold-out magic shows in the Hamilton area and his killer recent appearances on hit TV shows like Penn & Teller: Fool Us and America’s Got Talent, is hosting The Surprise Show, a series of pop-up variety shows featuring a fresh crew of special guest performers every Wednesday night throughout September at the Staircase Theatre.

The show offers audiences an exciting peek behind the curtain at something usually kept behind closed doors: the process of developing and perfecting new performance material.

While the primary purpose of the weekly 90-minute shows will be for Wallace to test out new magic material for an audience each week, The Surprise Show (co-produced by Luke Brown, frequent collaborator and Director of New Play Development at Theatre Aquarius) also promises an ever-changing and eclectic line-up of magic, comedy, music, short films, and more presented by a host of guest artists from a wide range of creative disciplines.

The series will give audiences an exciting, funny, and varied early look at the latest and greatest by our city’s local talent, as well as the option for audience members to offer some feedback for material that’s still being workshopped and fine-tuned.

That’s the beauty and the fun of The Surprise Show: some of what’s on offer each week might still need a little tweaking, and some of it just might blow your mind. So head on down to The Staircase, grab a drink at the bar, and prepared to be amazed (or, at least, surprised)!

The first Surprise Show kicks off on September 4th at 8 pm at The Staircase Theatre, with subsequent 8 pm performances featuring new line-ups of special guests on September 11th, 18th, and 25th. Tickets will be available at the door prior to each performance.
